England U18: Pendlebury names 46-man half term training squad

The England U18 squad for their February half term development camp has been named.

New Head Coach Jonathan Pendlebury has named a 46-man squad, up from 40 for the October development camp squad, and with twenty fresh call-ups from that.

Every single side from the U18 Academy League is represented, with the exception of Yorkshire Carnegie, who are yet to win a game. Bristol Bears, London Irish, Harlequins, and Saracens top the charts in terms of representation, with five each, almost half of the squad.

There are twenty-two different schools represented and a further eight AASE Colleges, with four schools/colleges have three representatives each.

Wellington College see captain Fin Baxter in the squad once again, but this time he is joined by schoolmates Cassius Cleaves and Marcus Rhodes. Felsted meanwhile also have three players in the squad, with scrum half Sam Bryan retained from the October squad and now joined by Obinna Nkwocha and Tristan Smith, both Saracens teammates of Bryan’s, too.

Beechen Cliff also have three players in the squad, and all three were in the October one, too, John Stewart, Ethan Staddon, and Orlando Bailey. SGS Filton College’s representation has jumped though, Andrew Tuner now joins previous squad members Charlie Rice and Deago Bailey.

There are a further eight schools/colleges with two representatives each, Bromsgrove see Seb Atkinson and Ollie Wynn called up fresh into the squad, while Cranleigh duo Oscar Beard and Will Trenholm both keep their places, so too the Millfield pair of Will Joseph and Ewan Richards.

Dean Close also have two players in the squad, Matty Jones and Freddie Thomas, both of whom were in the October group, while Whitgift have two new call ups, Joe Vajner and Olly Hartley. Warwick have two players in the squad too, Fin Smith, who was in the October group, and captain Jack Forsythe who missed out through injury in October but was included in the summer tour.

From an AASE perspective Exeter College pair Joe Elsworth and Ben Grubb both earn call ups, so too St Paul’s Catholic College’s Rory Morgan and Tarek Haffar, who, like Forsythe, was involved back in the summer tour of South Africa.

Other new call ups to the squad are Hampton’s Jamie Benson and Kirkham Grammar’s Corey Bowker, along with Norwich’s Dani Long-Martinez, and Truro College’s Ethan Pearce-Cowley. Bristol Bears pair George Taylor (Bristol Grammar), and TJ Wilstead (Colston’s) are also new call ups.
