Bank of Ireland Leinster Senior & Junior Cup Draws Made

The draws for the Bank of Ireland Leinster Schools Senior and Junior Cups were made over during December.

With uncertainty still hanging in the air as to when or if rugby may be able to go ahead as normal no dates were made for the fixtures, however the tournaments were still drawn for the prestigious tournaments.

Alongside the draws for the Senior and Junior Cups were the draws for the Vinnie Murray Cup and the Fr Godfrey Cup. Usually the finalists from those competitions qualify for the Senior and Junior Cups, however that will not be the case in 2021.

Bank of Ireland Leinster Schools Senior Cup Draw:

Round 1:

Gonzaga College v Newbridge College

Round 2:

Clongowes Wood College v Terenure College

CBC Monkstown v Temple Carrif

Catholic University School v St Mary’s College

Cistercian College, Roscrea v St Vincent’s Castleknock

St Michael’s College v Gonzaga/Newbridge

St Gerard’s v Wesley College

Kilkenny College v Presentation College Bray

Blackrock College v Belvedere College

Last years Clongowes Wood College and Newbridge College were due to meet in the final, however that was lost to Covid-19. Clongowes, who have eight titles to their name plus last year’s shared effort, host Terenure College, while Newbridge College are in the only round 1 fixture of the competition, versus Gonzaga College. The winner of that has the tough honour of a trip to the 2019 champions, St Michael’s College, in round 2.

Elsewhere the big highlight fixture to kick things off sees the two most successful sides in Senior Cup history drawn together, 69 time champions Blackrock College hosting 12 time champions Belvedere College.

Bank of Ireland Leinster Schools Junior Cup Draw:

Round 1:

St Mary’s College v Blackrock College

Round 2:

Newbridge College v Presentation College, Bray

Cistercian College Roscrea v Clongowes Wood College

St Michael’s College v St Vincent’s Castleknock

Gonzaga College v St Gerard’s

Catholic University School v Terenure College

CBC Monkstown v Wesley College

Belvedere College v Kilkenny College

Despite sharing last year’s cancelled final with Newbridge College, Blackrock College are in the only Round 1 game, away to St Mary’s College, so the 52 time champions have a long road to travel if they are to make the final for the 9th year in a row.

The only side to have beaten Blackrock in a final in that stretch are St Michael’s College, 2017 and 2019, they begin their campaign at home to St Vincent’s Castleknock. Last year’s other shared champions, Newbridge, meanwhile are at home to Presentation College, Bray.
