Schools Rugby: Midweek Preview – Final 20 games of the year

This week the very last handful of games of this incredible 2021 schools rugby term take place. It has been a joyous term as rugby returned, and there are going to be some spectacular games with which to finish the term off, too.

Chief among those games are going to be the last of the Schools Cup, Vase, and Bowl quarter finals, the Plate quarter finals are completed bar Stockport Grammar v Norwich, which has been postponed but without a firm date yet decided.

Tuesday

Tuesday’s action is likely to see the bulk of the focus on Croydon as Trinity host Berkhamsted in the last of the U18 Schools Cup quarter finals. Our live cameras will be there to stream the game as these two superb sides look to progress to the semi finals. Trinity are on fire, beating three time champions to get here, but they face an unbeaten Berkhamsted side that won the Daily Mail Trophy on Saturday. It ought to be a brilliant game of rugby as these two look to join Barnard Castle, Kirkham Grammar School, and Sherborne in the semi finals and you can read our full preview here: Trinity v Berkhamsted preview.

There is also a Schools Bowl quarter final on Tuesday as RGS Colchester, who had a massive confidence boosting victory at Brentwood on Saturday, host Prince Henry’s Grammar School, who progressed past Wilmslow High School last round. Hills Road and Glyn are already through to the semis, these two will look to join them and then await the outcome of West Buckland v Eastbourne College on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, George Abbot host Guildford County School and Claires Court welcome St Bartholomew’s in what ought to be a fantastic pair of end of season games.

Wednesday

Wednesday marks the final day of the school season and one of the biggest of the day will be the U18 Schools Vase quarter final between Coventry College and Ipswich. Two schools with big ambitions who have been playing some great rugby and have a strong chance of going all the way. Already through are Mount St Mary’s College, Sutton Valence, and Reading Blue Coat, but none will want to face either of these.

There is also the last of the U18 Schools Bowl quarter finals as West Buckland and Eastbourne College go head to head to see who will join Glyn, Hills Road, and the winner of Tuesday’s quarter final between RGS Colchester and Prince Henry’s Grammar.

Elsewhere one of the biggest games around is going to be Denstone College v Hartpury College Bulls. Denstone College have been outstanding of late, particularly in that come back victory over Whitgift, and will be itching to claim this massive scalp. Hartpury Bulls have plenty of talent and depth but have come unstuck against Millfield and Clifton College and will not be keen on the idea of letting that happen again.

Another really special fixture will be the Anglo-Scots clash in Durham as Edinburgh Academy head to Durham School for what will be a proper celebration of schools rugby. Meanwhile Lancaster RGS v Cheadle Hulme should be a fantastic game too, and in Harrogate Ashville College welcome Silcaotes and Yarm for what should be a brilliant end of season Triangular.

Further South Sandringham head to Beaumont, while Dr Challoner’s Grammar v Aylesbury Grammar looks like it could be a cracking end of season contest. Meanwhile South Bromsgrove host Stourport Highand Burdford head to Cokethorpe.

One of the games of the day ought to be St Peter’s Gloucester v Sir Thomas Rich’s, two big names and a glorious way for each to end the season. Meanwhile Riddlesdown Collegiate are at Wilson’s.

Hayes v St Olave’s Grammar should be a great game, with Hayes really buoyant about their rugby at the moment. Maidstone Grammar are welcoming Oakwood Park Grammar, while it’s a trip to King’s Rochesterfor Gravesend Grammar. Ewell Castle round things off with a game at home against Saints Cecilia’s.
