Schools Rugby: Midweek Preview – A quiet half term week

With this being half term week, it is a fairly quiet week on the schools rugby front, although there are still some hugely exciting fixtures.

There is action on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with both fifteen-a-side and seven-a-side fixtures taking place.

Wednesday

On the fifteen-a-side front it is the Midlands that is seeing the bulk of the action, with KES Stratford hosting a Warwick XV, Queen Mary’s Grammar hosting Walsall Academy, and Wrekin College  hosting Shrewsbury.

As part of the burgeoning relationship between Ealing Trailfinders and St Joseph’s College, St Joseph’s are travelling to Brunel University on Wednesday evening to take on Henley College. Henley college are currently caught somewhere between preparing and not-preparing for a Schools Plate semi final against KCS Wimbledon next month, with rumours abounding that they may have been disqualified. It’s a horrible situation for the boys, who are left in total limbo, however at the moment confirmation is yet to be forthcoming, with the RFU’s only comment being; “In light of this matter being subject to an ongoing investigation, we are unable to comment at this time.”

Back on the field of play Bablake & King Henry VIII Coventry are hosting Bishop Vesey’s Grammar in what promises to be a magnificent occasion, while Sir Thomas Rich’s have an absolute cracker lined up, they welcome Welshmen Bridgend College.

On the 7s field on Wednesday there are friendlies between Abingdon and Magdalen College as well as Bromsgrove and Solihull. Meanwhile Woodhouse Grove host local rivals Bradford Grammar and QEGS Wakefield in a warm-up triangular series for the challenges ahead after half term, Dame Allan’s host a similar event in the North East.

Thursday

On Thursday Sherborne are due to continue preparation for their Schools Cup semi final against Trinity next month, they take on Bishop Wordsworth’s in what should be a fun afternoon in Dorset.

Meanwhile on the 7s field QEH Bristol are hosting the Bristol Schools’ 7s, with the likes of Clifton High School and Colston’s in attendance.

Friday

It’s back to the Midlands on Friday, where two exciting games are taking place. Bablake & King Henry VIII Coventry are taking on Princethorpe College, while KES Birmingham and KES Camp Hill also go head to head.
