Just a few short days on from their superb U18 Schools Cup triumph at BT Murrayfield, Merchiston Castle will host their annual 7s event on Sunday.

There will be eight teams in attendance on Sunday, including the side they beat in that final on Wednesday, Stewart’s Melville, plus the U18 Shield champions Loretto and the two sides whose U16s competed in the Cup final at that age-group, George Watson’s College and Dollar Academy.

Joining those five are Glenalmond College and Fettes College, while Durham School will make the trip up from England to complete the lineup.

The eight teams are divided into two groups of four, and the top two from each will then head to the Cup semi finals while those finishing third will play off for 5^th place overall and those at the foot of each pool will play off for 7^th.

Merchiston Castle are in Group 1 and joining them are great rivals George Watson’s College, that game should be a tasty affair. Alongside those two are Loretto and Glenalmond College in a tough group.

Group 2 meanwhile sees Stewart’s Melville look to end the week with silverware, joining them are the ever-strong Dollar Academy as well as Fettes College and England’s Durham, who would love to bring the trophy across the border.

Overall it should be a short, sharp, and superb afternoon of 7s at Merchiston Castle.
