LIVE STREAM: UR7s Regional Festival – North vs South

This Monday the annual UR7s Regional Festival will take place, with the North and the South Regional UR7s Academy teams going head to head in both Men’s and Women’s events.

Last year in the men’s competition the North claimed the spoils, and they will be looking to back that up on our live cameras from 9.30am on Monday – you will be able to watch all the action on our YouTube channel or via the embedded link below.

The North men will be skippered by Woodhouse Grove’s George Worthington, and his counterpart in the South will be Bedford’s Alex Edun. Both men will be leading some incredibly exciting, talented, and hard-working squads on what should be an epic day in the Easter Monday sunshine.

The Girls squads will sees Saoirse Canning of Sutton Coldfield RFC leading the North, while Amelie Anstead of Oaklands College will be leading the South in what promises to be an equally compelling festival of 7s.

The prize on offer is the Oscar Montgomery Cup, claimed last year by the North. The Cup is named after a former UR7s Academy star, Oscar Montgomery, who sadly lost his life whilst free diving in Dorset in 2020.

That saw UR7s rename the Regional Festival trophy in his honour, and this year the Festival will also be supporting The Oscar Montgomery Environment Foundation (OMEF), which was started in July 2020, just two days after Oscar’s funeral, which aims to raise funds for supporting environmental projects the world over.

So the entire Festival will have thoughts of Oscar in mind and will be raising funds for causes he cared so deeply about. Perhaps more than that though, the rugby on the field will be played with the same kind of daring and passion that he showed on and off the field.

It promises to be a very special day, hopefully in the blazing sunshine, and you can watch it all here:
