Schools Rugby: Weekend Preview | Quiet Weekend as Half Term Approaches

This weekend is a fairly quiet weekend in the world of schools rugby, with the half term break seeing many sides have the weekend off.

It is also the final weekend of league action in the Premiership Rugby U18 Academy League, so a huge number of players will be in action there.

That being said, there is still school action through the weekend, both in the fifteen-a-side arena and the seven-a-side arena.

Friday

Ibstock Place v Graveney

Just the one game on Friday but it should be a good even game of rugby as Ibstock Place host Graveney in South West London, two schools that have played some good rugby this season.

Saturday

Bablake & King Henry VIII v KES Stratford

Barnard Castle v Durham – 7s

Bolton v St Anselm’s College

Bromsgrove Triangular 7s: Bromsgrove, Cheltenham College, Solihull

Highland RFC v Robert Gordon’s College

Llandovery College v Christ College

Strathallan v Belgrano, Argentina

The Crypt v Sir Thomas Rich’s

Warwick v Finborough

Saturday is slightly busier, and one fixture that immediately jumps off the page is Warwick v Finborough. The U18 Schools Cup semi finalists, Finborough, are gearing up for that semi final and Warwick, no strangers to a semi final or two themselves, are the perfect opponent. It will be a tough game, a competitive game, and one that is not to be missed.

Nor is Llandovery College v Christ College, the oldest fixture in Welsh schools rugby and finally back on the calendar after years of absence. It will be fierce, it will be fun, and it should be absolutely spectacular game of rugby.

Back in the South West of England, Sir Thomas Rich’s, who have been wonderful this year, head to The Crypt, who have had some seriously strong performances themselves. Moving slightly further north, Bablake & King Henry VIII have been busy this term and are so again on Saturday as they host KES Stratford. Further north again, St Anselm’s College are heading to Bolton School.

In Scotland there is a special occasion at Strathallan, for whom this has been an amazing few weeks with representatives in the Scotland setup, the Scotland U20s side, and in the Glasgow and Edinburgh U18s. The formidable side will be welcoming Argentine tourists Belgrano for what should be a fantastic event. Further north into Scotland, Robert Gordon’s College have a club fixture as they travel to take on Highland RFC.

There is some 7s on Saturday too, Bromsgrove are hosting a triangular with Cheltenham College and Solihull the visitors as preparations for the Rosslyn Park National School 7s continue. There will also be some training fixtures between Barnard Castle and Durham.

Sunday

Ipswich School 7s: See Preview Here

Sunday sees most at home for half term, but ten schools will gather at Ipswich School for their annual 7s tournament, along with 12 schools at U16 level as well. It should be a strong competition, and you can view our preview here: Ipswich School 7s.
