Once the Schools Rugby season starts, it does not let up and this midweek is the perfect example of that as the Continental Tyres U18 Schools Vase kicks off.
Such is the vast quantity of games, and indeed the sheer number of live games coming up in the next ten days, that we aren’t going to give into each of the Vase games, waiting until the round is over to reflect on what has been and what round 2 will start to look like.
The fixtures are all listed within this article though, and there really are some wonderful matchups across the competition. More important though, the Continental Tyres Schools Vase allows some schools that might not normally garner too many headlines the chance to get some of the limelight – and hopefully there will be plenty of those to talk about at the conclusion of the round.
Elsewhere this Midweek
Elsewhere the week is no less busy, Parmiter’s hosting St Clement Danes on Tuesday, and Milton Abbeyhosting a triangular featuring Bryanston and Queen’s College Taunton, sandwiching a Wednesday that is absolutely stacked.
The main focus here at NextGenXV on Wednesday will be at Rugby School, who are taking on Haileybury at 2.30pm in a game that will be LIVE on the NextGenXV YouTube Channel, or by clicking on the embedded video below. Elsewhere there are some real heavyweights in action, perhaps nowhere more so than in the South West where Millfield have their first full-game of the season as they host Hartpury College Bulls, a game between two giants of the school game and one to pay close attention to as Millfield will be featuring LIVE on NextGenXV on the 21st September when they play Clifton College in the Ryan Bresnahan Memorial game.
Last year’s Ryan Bresnahan game saw Kirkham Grammar School take part, and the north west side are in action on Wednesday after a brilliant victory over Wirral Grammar on Saturday, they take on Welsh giants Coleg Llandrillo, a huge Anglo-Welsh clash.
There are some great tour games taking place, St Albans welcome Argentine namesakes St Albans Buenos Aires, and it is opposition from Argentina for King’s Ely too, in the form of Northlands. Strathallan meanwhile welcome Chilean side, The Grange.
Staying in Scotland, Bell Baxter host Hutchesons’ Grammar, while Kelvinside Academy welcome St Aloysius’ College and Dundee High School head to Linlithgow Academy. The fixtures come thick and fast in Scotland, with Loretto hosting Glasgow Academy, Marr College host Glenalmond College, and Robert Gordon’s College travel to North Berwick.
Back in England, Solihull had a great weekend and are back in action on Wednesday at King Henry VIII, while Sir William Borlase’s head to Haberdashers’ Elstree, and in the South West Taunton School host Richard Huish.
One fixture that looks very tasty is Moulton College v Samuel Whitbread Academy, two sides that have had great success over the years and have strong Northampton Saints links. Gloucester meanwhile will be keen to keep an eye on St Peter’s Gloucester v Churchdown, and Sale Sharks will surely take an interest in Stonyhurst’s game at home to Clitheroe RGS, a real local derby game.
