Team of the Term Vote – Season Summary – Kirkham Grammar School

Our latest season summary for our Team of the Term Vote is Kirkham Grammar School.

The results will be announced on the 1st January, from the ten team shortlist.

Kirkham have had a truly extraordinary season, winning all fourteen of their fourteen matches to earn that greatest of schoolboy triumphs, the elusive unbeaten season.

Five times they passed fifty points, and on one occasion they scored a spectacular 61 against Mount St Mary’s.

It was such a brilliant season that Kirkham finished in third place in the Daily Mail Trophy table, with only Wellington College and Sedbergh behind him. Indeed Kirkham were one of just two sides to beat Sedbergh, and the only team to do so at Sedbergh.

That victory and their brilliant 22-21 away win over Tonbridge were the two results that really elevated Kirkham into the exceptional status this season. Northern sides can sometimes find themselves unfairly played down due to a perception of a weaker fixture list, however a couple of victories like that absolutely proved Kirkham’s quality.

Another satisfying win for Kirkham was against the 2013 Daily Mail Trophy champions Woodhouse Grove, while their final game of the season was against Australian touring side St Ignatius, where they sealed their unbeaten term with a 17-10 victory.

A quite exceptional term from an exceptional Kirkham Grammar School 1st XV.
