Team of the Term Vote – Season Summary – Monmouth

Our seventh season summary for our Team of the Term vote is Monmouth School.

The Welsh side are one of ten shortlisted teams for the award, and each day before the announcement of the team with the most votes, on the 1st January, we are summarising one side’s season.

Monmouth have had a simply brilliant season, winning all fourteen of their schoolboy fixtures and losing just one game, a friendly against club side Crawshays Welsh.

Coached by Wales and Lions legend John Bevan, Monmouth’s outstanding fourteen victories this season have seen them progress to the 6th round of the NatWest Cup. Should they progress from that a monumental last 16 tie against either RGS High Wycombe or Hampton will await.

Among the fourteen teams beaten by Monmouth this season are Millfield and Bromsgrove, both of whom are also on the shortlist for the team of the term award, showing just how strong Monmouth have been.

They hit over fifty points in a NatWest Cup tie, as well as a stunning 43-0 victory over Bristol Grammar School early in the term, showing that they could score points as well as grind out the wins.

That points scoring and collection of victories saw Monmouth finish an outstanding fourth in the Daily Mail Trophy, with just Wellington College, Sedbergh, and Kirkham Grammar School above them, all three of whom are on the team of the term shortlist.

November was really the jewel in Monmouth’s term though as they beat Colston’s, Bromsgrove, and Millfield, as well as winning Cup ties against Stowe and Backwell to secure our own November Team of Month award.

Can they seal the Team of the Term award? Their season suggests they are certainly in with a shout.
