The second round of the 2015/16 AASE League takes place on Wednesday, with Hartpury College and St Paul’s Catholic College entering the fray after bye weeks last week.
Hartpury open their season at home against Worcester 6th form College, who lost their opener last week 24-21 to Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College, the Leicester Tigers affiliated AASE newcomers.
That was one of a number of incredibly close fixtures last week, and Wyggeston face another side on Wenesday who were involved in one of those tight games, Myerscough College. Myerscough just beat Gosforth Academy 21-19, and will need to be at their sharpest against Wyggeston side playing in their first ever AASE home game.
The final in the North sees Gosforth Academy host Oaklands College, who had their season opener postponed as Moulton College were not yet at school. Oaklands probably arrive as favourites owing to their past performances, but with Gosforth at home and with a game under their belts already, they will need to be at their best.
In the South, Beechen Cliff host their first ever AASE home game. The Bath affiliated side lost their first ever AASE game to Ivybridge last week and life probably will not be any easier against Filton College, who won 16-14 against Bicton last week.
Bicton will hope to rectify that at home to Truro College on Wednesday, but the Cornishmen are already a win to the good after a 25-23 victory over Henley College last week and will not be an easy side to turn over.
The final game sees St Paul’s return to action as they host Ivybridge, the only side to secure a convincing win last week, when they beat Beechen Cliff 31-10. Wednesday’s game seems likely to be an altogether more difficult prospect though.
