School 7s: Strong draw for Sunday’s Reed’s 7s

Sunday is a huge day of school 7s, with a number of big tournaments taking place.

One of the smaller tournaments is the Reed’s 7s, with just eight schools competing. However while there may not be many schools, the quality is substantial.

The eight sides are split into two groups of four, the winners of each group will meet in the Cup final, second place in the Plate, third in the Bowl, and fourth in the Shield.

Felsted lifted the main silverware last year, beating Seaford College 28-7 in the final. The Essex side does not return this year though, with a NatWest Cup semi final to focus on. Seaford College are back though, and are in a tricky group B.

Joining them are St John’s Leatherhead, who lost in last year’s Plate final to the host school and won the Bowl the year before, as well as Kent College, who lost last year’s Shield, and newcomers Wisbech Grammar School.

Hosts Reed’s, who won last year’s Plate with that 29-20 win over St John’s, are in Group A. Competing against them are New Hall, who should have a very strong side if all of their players are available, Hurstpierpoint College, who lost in last year’s Bowl final, and Gordon’s.
